Thanks to our over-reaching Federal Government, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is forcing oil manufacturers to change their formulas to meet the changes to 2017 and later diesel engines.
The problem, especially with fleet owners, is that the same oil that you use in one vehicle may not be the one that you should use in another. The new CK-4 engine oil can be used in older engines while the FA-4 motor oil has limited backward capability, meaning it could cause damage when used in an older engine. In both cases, the new oils are designed to operate at a higher temperature (as much as 50 degrees!) and we all know that heat is a killer!
From everything that I've read, it will not be a good time for diesel owners who want their engines to provide them with years of high mileage service.
Asheville Engine, Inc will be making specific recommendations regarding what engine oil to use in our re-manufactured Ford Powerstroke engines in the very near future.
