In our opinion, aftermarket cylinder heads for the 6.0 Powerstroke are not worth their weight in scrap value. Aftermarket cylinder heads are made in China and their casting process must be very inferior to whatever casting is done elsewhere because the heads are junk even though they may look good....but.... they don't always look good if you look close enough. Having spent quite a bit of time inspecting them, we've seen injector bolt holes that were not drilled deep enough to accept the bolt and some that were drilled and tapped at all different angles. We've also seen some in which the casting on top of the head was so rough that there were pin holes in the fuel rails.
We have had people call us who have had "brand new heads" put on their engines who have had the following issues.
* Diesel fuel in the oil
* Head gaskets blow repeatedly
* Hydrolocking with diesel fuel in the cylinder
At Asheville Engine, Inc., when we have a core engine come in from a customer with Chinese heads on it, we don't even bother cleaning them. They go straight into the scrap pile!
Don't waste your time and money buying Chinese aftermarket heads and stay away from any engine builder who advertises that they use them.
